There are a number of Eating Disorders recognised including Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, and Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS). Each has its different effects with those with Anorexia fearing weight gain which can lead to severe complications search as heart damage and infertility, and others such as Bulimia who binge eat and subsequently make themselves sick or take laxatives in an attempt to get rid of the food they consumed.
People with Eating Disorder will often have a comorbid diagnoses. Treatment can be difficult to access within the NHS with specialist training being difficult to access due to a lack of availability and funding.
There is some evidence to suggest CBT/DBT is useful in treating eating disorders, with family therapy also showing benefits.
